Asian Studies (AS)
Description of the major
The Asian Studies Program is interdisciplinary with a linguistic component and opportunities for direct experience with an Asian culture. The student majoring in Asian studies examines multiple facets of the cultures, traditions, and contemporary realities of Asian countries and peoples. Asian studies courses offer perspectives and subjects as varied as anthropology, history, language and literature, sociology, religious studies, political science and international affairs, music, English, and visual and performing arts. Students engage actively in the acquisition of essential skills in language competency and disciplinary methods. Education in 三亿体育官网 classrooms is enhanced by study, travel, and internships in Asia.
The Asian Studies Program offers a major (32 credit hours) and a minor (18 credit hours). The program begins with the 鈥淚ntroduction to Asian Studies鈥 course and culminates with a senior seminar and capstone project. Students who are intending to major in Asian studies should complete the general college requirements, two semesters of an Asian language, and approved Asian studies courses such as those listed below.
